National Grape Popsicle Day is a delightful day to relish this basic pleasure and reminisce about the wonderful, carefree days of summers past that each chilling, vibrant bite invokes.

History of National Grape Popsicle Day

No one really knows who established National Grape Popsicle Day on May 27th every year. However, the story of the grape popsicle itself can be traced back to the beginning of the original Eppsicle, setting the scene for this tasty holiday.

Back in 1905, a young boy of 11 named Frank Epperson from San Francisco accidentally created the first ever “Eppsicle.” On a cold night, he carelessly left a glass with a mixture of soda water and a stirrer on his back porch. Come morning, the liquid had frozen, making the first primitive popsicle.

As he grew older, Epperson realized the potential of his accident and started manufacturing these icy snacks in an assortment of flavors including grape – hence, the grape popsicle came into existence. The name “Eppsicle” was given by Epperson himself, but was later changed to “Popsicle” by his children who combined the name they used for their father, “Pop,” with “Eppsicle”.

Even though National Grape Popsicle Day is largely celebrated in America, the historical background of this day is enigmatic. It’s embraced by people who enjoy popsicles everywhere and signals the unofficial start to the summer season when the climate begins to heat up.
